SATED: to be full and filled, even overflowingly so, to fill to repletion.

A long time ago, I used to have a blog. I’m simultaneously grateful and heartbroken that it can no longer be found. At the time, I wrote about the little things of my life, drawing them into much bigger metaphors, and tied them all up with a bow at the end-the little learning lesson I hoped my readers would take away. I spelled it out and handed it right to them. I was a little bossy if I’m honest.

My posts were truly lovely. They were heart-forward, albeit a little narrow-visioned. They were also incomplete because I rarely, if ever, touched the “dark night of my soul” in any of that writing. My readers seemed to eat them up, or maybe they just really, deeply loved me. (Thanks, Mom and Dad!)

Writing (and the broader sharing of my writing) called me again in 2016 when I found myself neck-deep in grief. I was nursing losses both professionally and relationally. My life felt small at that time, and not in a good way. More in a “this is going to close in on me and I’m going to suffocate” kind of way. So I did what any millennial with an iota of skill in the kitchen would do, and started a food blog. “Dash of Danger is truly a triumph” …is what I imagined Ina Garten saying about me once she noticed me, fell in love with my approach to food, and found herself speechless and touched by the fact that I named my dog after her husband, and then ultimately asked me to run a bed and breakfast with her in the Hamptons. She never did read Dash of Danger, at least not that I know of. And that long-forgotten food blog isn’t where my creative heart beats anymore. It was a container in the time I needed it, and now there is something growing here.

If you’d like to get a laugh though, read the final post I did here, where I talked about how 2020 was going to be a year of “community and connecting.” I guess the pandemic said, “That’s cute, Jesie.”

So what is Sated Soul all about? Well, recently, I had the chance to take a poetry course with the incredible Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer, and in it, she shared some “promises” she has for herself in her writing:

1. I will write

2. It doesn’t have to be good, but it has to be true

3. I cannot know the end when I start

4. I will share it

So I am here at Sated Soul now, to keep those 4 promises to myself. I imagine I’ll be writing some bossy things every now and then, and that they’ll be some foodie talk, travel stories, poetry, and some insights from my work as a therapist. Mostly, this is a space for me to let my sated soul enjoy herself. To show up, be seen, offer a little, and leave some creative residue behind. I’d love for you to come with me.
